Superhero Gum Party (ollie turns 4)

Around the Hess house, turning four is a rite of passage because gum chewing is allowed at that point. So Ollie wanted a party with gum, but he also wanted it to have superheroes, so we came up with a Superhero Gum Party. As you will see, we had a lot of fun with it!

As always, we started off with a children's book with a similar theme. This year we found one called "Do Superheroes have Teddy Bears?" Even the dogs were interested to see how this one turned out.

Next the kids decorated their own Superhero masks to take home with them.

Then we moved on to some games including a bean bag toss, city smash, crash course and of course a piñata.

Some of the kids with their loot from the piñata.

We had some food next consisting of superhero dogs, fruit ka-pows, crunch chips, crackle crispies, superhero punch and pop sodas.

The birthday boy munching on some food.

Present time!!!

Inhale...

and blow...

Happy Birthday Oliver James Hess.

Ollie's first day of preschool

Today was Oliver's first day of preschool. After a fresh haircut and a new shirt, he was ready to go. It's strange to have both of our kids in school now, but we can't wait to see all of the things that they learn this year. This post is all about Ollie, his big first day and getting to soak up a little bit of time with mommy and daddy, without his sister in tow.

It was neat to log his height on our growth chart. He is just about an inch taller than Charlotte was on her first day of preschool.

That face is killing me.

Proud to wear his backpack for the first time.

A couple shots outside before we left for school.

These two love each other in a major way. Charlotte was so proud of Ollie and couldn't wait to hear about his day when she got home from school.

We tried to get this picture before school started but it just didn't happen, so here is one we snapped after school.

He didn't want mommy to leave him and there were a few tears, but we said goodbye and left it in his teacher's hands. He ended up having a great time.

After school, he had the pick of any restaurant and he chose Skyline. He may have been born in Virginia, but his blood flows with Skyline now.

We are so proud of you Oliver James. You are our baby boy, but you are growing up into a fun little man. Glad we got to share this first with you. Class of 2031 here we come!

fall festivities

It has been over two months since our last blog post and part of that is how busy we have been.  I can not believe it has been two months since school has started.  Everyone is having a great school year so far.  Charlotte adores her teacher and has learned so much that she surprises me everyday.  Oliver has changed so much just since the summer.  He is talking constantly now and his favorite phrase is "that's what happened" after one of his stories that often only Charlotte can decipher.  Even though both Jay and I have been very busy with school and FPM we have had some fun trips to pick apples, pumpkins and of course all of the halloween adventures.  This year C was feeling a litter under the weather and it shows in some of her halloween pictures, she only made it to a handful of houses before wanting to come back home.  Oliver on the other hand, absolutely loved it and still today is questioning..."where all the candy is?" as we go for  walks.  He is confused where everyone has gone from our trick or treating adventure through the neighborhood and why people are not handing him candy on his walks like they did on Halloween!  Here are some pics of our adventures over the past two months.  Enjoy!IMG_0626IMG_0668IMG_0681IMG_0689IMG_0692IMG_0696IMG_0731IMG_0886IMG_0892IMG_0903IMG_0923IMG_0939IMG_0944IMG_0958IMG_0963IMG_0976IMG_1000IMG_1023IMG_1038IMG_1105IMG_1112IMG_1114IMG_1156IMG_1178IMG_1198IMG_1204IMG_1206
